My name is Malachi Wilson, and I am a computer scientist in training. My goal is to go to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where I would study machine learning and system development for my masters in computer science, as well as minor in psychology. To achieve my goal, I am in several extracurricular activities, including University Interscholastic League (UIL), an academic competition in the state of Texas, as well as Technology Student Association (TSA), which is a nationwide extracurricular that consists of various technology-related competitions for students to excel in.
Career: Machine Learning Engineer
I chose the machine learning engineer career because I like to do both advanced mathematics and programming, which are essential to building machine learning models. I also find the idea that computers can learn and think to be intriguing, so I wish to find out how they are able to do so, and contribute to the growing global interest in AI.
There are many factors that contribute to the overall cost of getting a job as a Machine Learning Engineer. What I personally want to do is attend MIT for education, which costs $64,310 in tuition yearly. The textbooks needed would likely cost around $910 yearly as well, as many expensive, high-end textbooks are required for MIT. In addition, a room would cost $5,800 per semester. It could also be beneficial to have a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate, costing $300. Being that it is recommended to have at least a Master's Degree (although I am thinking about a PhD), the total minimum time could be 5 years of tuition at MIT, assuming that I try to do a fast track method (which I will attempt).
There are several things one must do in order to qualify for a job in Machine Learning Engineering . Minimum requirements include at least a bachelors degree in computer science, at least 2 years of one of more programming languages (like Python, Java, etc.), and experience with image processing, computer vision, and machine learning algorithms. These are just the bare minimum, though, and it is preferred to have a Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering, focused on computer vision, as well as experience with machine learning infrastructure.
